About the client

The InnoEnergy Skills Institute equips the clean tech industry with critical skills to accelerate the energy transition. It delivers tailored upskilling solutions that drive innovation, growth, and workforce readiness. Solutions include TPaaS (Talent Pipeline as a Service), the Green Talent Accelerator, and Net-Zero Industry Academies. These connect industry with skilled talent and inspire wider interest in clean tech careers. The Institute plays a vital role in building the workforce Europe needs for a net-zero future.

Goal

Blue Carrot was tasked with developing an engaging Storyline-based course called the Job Role Explorer, aimed at Gen-Z students. The course is designed to introduce young learners to career opportunities in the solar energy industry, to inform, encourage, and inspire them to explore future job roles in the sustainable energy sector.

The project’s ultimate goal is to make career exploration both educational and inspiring, tailored to the preferences and learning styles of Gen Z.

Challenges

The main challenge during the project was the design phase, particularly in creating a visual style that would resonate with Gen-Z students while effectively presenting complex industry information. Striking the right balance between educational clarity, interactivity, and modern, appealing visuals was a demanding task.

This challenge impacted the overall execution by requiring additional iterations and close collaboration between the design, instructional, and client teams. Aligning on visual direction and interaction style took more time than initially planned, as it was crucial to ensure that the final product felt intuitive, engaging, and relevant to the young audience.

What we did

Collaborative process: We had ongoing feedback loops with clients and used early-cycle tools such as mood boards and prototypes to validate concepts. This allowed us to receive real-time feedback and quickly make informed changes.

Iterative development: Through continuous design development and interactivity, we executed an iterative development process to deliver a finished course that is user-friendly, smooth, and addresses all educational objectives and aesthetic expectations.

Structured review procedure: We adopted a phase-by-phase review procedure, with every phase being delivered and checked before proceeding to the subsequent phase. This kept the project aligned with the client's vision, minimized scope extension, and guaranteed quality across all stages throughout.

Project breakdown

  1. Approach
The project followed a structured, phase-based approach with clear tasks and tools at each stage.
  2. Discovery & planning
We used Miro for brainstorming and course mapping, and Asana for task management.
  3. Content development
We created scripts aligned with Gen-Z learners using Google Docs, ensuring all content was reviewed and approved before moving forward.
  4. Design
The design phase involved crafting UI layouts in Figma and creating custom illustrations in Adobe Illustrator for 12 job roles.
  5. Interactive development
We built the course in Articulate Storyline, integrating visuals, interactivity, and quizzes.
  6. QA & delivery
Finally, we conducted QA, gathered final feedback, and delivered a polished, SCORM-ready course.
  7. Revisions
Each phase was completed and approved before proceeding to the next, ensuring a smooth and effective workflow.

Results

The project resulted in a dynamic, interactive Job Role Explorer course tailored for Gen-Z students. It effectively showcases 12 career paths within the solar energy industry. The course successfully combines educational content, engaging visuals, and user-friendly interactivity to inform and inspire young learners.

The project consists of three main parts:

  1. Industry overview – A clear and visually engaging introduction to the solar energy industry, covering key facts, trends, technologies, and the industry’s role in the global shift toward clean energy.
  2. Assessment – An interactive quiz that evaluates learners’ understanding of the information presented in the industry overview, ensuring they grasp the core concepts before moving forward.
  3. Job Role Explorer – The heart of the course, featuring 12 job roles within the solar sector. Each role is presented through an illustrated, interactive β€œday in the life” experience, helping learners understand what each profession entails and how it aligns with their own interests and skills.

For the client, the project became a valuable outreach tool that strengthens their mission of promoting sustainable energy careers. It enhanced their educational offering, helped build awareness among future talent, and positioned them as innovative leaders connecting education with green job opportunities.
