About the client

University of Southern California

Goal

To enhance student engagement and support diverse learning styles, the program leaders have been producing in-house hybrid e-learning videosβ€”merging recorded classroom instruction with custom 2D animation. The goal was to scale the production of hybrid e-learning videos by engaging with an overseas production partner.

Challenges

Adhering to academic calendar meant our team had to work within a tightly defined production window, coordinating seamlessly across time zones and university holidays. At the same time, we needed to preserve the agility to incorporate client feedback on short notice (e.g., a revised animation style). We had to keep flexible and be ready to adapt if any changes occurred.

What we did

Input
The partnership focused solely on the animation stage. Our team used finalized scripts, raw and processed footage, illustrative storyboards, and detailed animation briefs supplied by client. These materials formed the blueprint for every sequence.

Animation
We edited and animated all the given graphic elements for the provided videos using Adobe After Effects.

Workflow optimization
To streamline workflow and maintain stylistic consistency, we used motion templates and a shared library of avatars. All assets adhered to WCAG principles, and color contrast was verified using the Color Contrast Analyzer tool to ensure accessible e-learning content.

Continuous collaboration
We implemented a live project tracker that mapped each task’s statusβ€”from β€œanimation in progress” to β€œclient feedback received.” As soon as notes came in, they were queued for the next edit cycle.

Project breakdown

  • Duration & Scope
A two-year collaboration aligned with the university’s academic calendarβ€”year one delivered two courses, year two delivered the final course with planned holiday breaksβ€”focused exclusively on the animation stage.
  • Video Volume
Produced 252 videos across three courses (12 modules each with 7 videos per module), each averaging 8 minutes in length.
  • Asset Count & Approval
Brought dozens of unique assetsβ€” transitions, infographics, etc. β€”to life and achieved a high first-round approval rate.
  • Communication
We maintained ongoing coordination through Slack and Frame.io, ensuring swift clarifications and a transparent revision process.

Results

Over two years, we produced 252 learning videosβ€”three courses of twelve modules each, featuring seven videos per module and averaging eight minutes in length. Our delivery rhythm was perfectly aligned with semester schedule, accommodating holiday breaks without missing a deadline. By the end of the engagement, client had a robust, on-demand video library that enhanced its Master’s programs with high-quality, scalable e-learning content.
