About the client


Epilepsiforbundet (The Epilepsy Association of Norway) is a national organization dedicated to supporting individuals living with epilepsy. They aim to raise awareness about the condition, eliminate stigma, and empower those affected by epilepsy to live fulfilling lives. The organization is also committed to advocating for equal rights and opportunities for people with epilepsy across Norway.

Goal

The video aimed to encourage the people of Norway to support and learn more about the national, multicultural, and diverse community of individuals living with epilepsy. The goal was to promote Epilepsiforbundet’s values, raise awareness about the condition, and invite more people to join the community.

Challenges

  • Highlighting the diversity within the epilepsy community and making the message accessible and relatable.
  • Ensure the video can be easily understood and translated into multiple languages for a wide-reaching impact.
  • Striking the right balance between empathy, education, and visibility without overloading the viewer with too much information or graphic complexity.

What we did

Developed five diverse characters to represent different individuals within the epilepsy community, ensuring the video reflected a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.

Used real stories from Epilepsiforbundet members to create an emotional connection with the audience.

Created a clean and digestible cutout animation style that conveyed complex ideas in an approachable way.

Project breakdown

  1. Research & Ideation
    We started by researching Epilepsiforbundet’s mission and audience. Through interviews and analysis, we made sure the video would speak directly to people with epilepsy and their communities. This step helped us nail down the right tone and messaging.
  2. Concept & Storyboarding
    Our team sketched out the story scene by scene, mapping out how each moment would flow. We kept things visually simple yet meaningful, ensuring every frame helped tell the story without distractions.
  3. Scriptwriting & Character design
    We crafted a relatable script in Google Docs, using real stories as inspiration. The characters were five unique individuals reflecting the diversity within Norway’s epilepsy community.
  4. Animation & Sound design
    Using Adobe After Effects, we brought the characters to life with smooth cutout animation. To enhance the experience, we designed a custom soundscape, making sure every sound fit naturally with the visuals.
  5. Final Edits & Localization
    Before delivering the final video, we fine-tuned the pacing and visuals. Since the video was meant to be translated into seven languages, we structured it without on-screen text, making localization smooth and efficient.

Results

Blue Carrot completed the explainer video for Epilepsiforbundet within one month, involving six team members in the production process. The video received praise from Halvor Nitteberg, a professional with 20 years of experience in television and film production. The video also won an artistic award on Behance shortly after its release.
