About the client

Logo of UNFPA

Blue Carrot was tasked with creating an interactive Storyline video course for UNFPA in Ukrainian, “Кейс-менеджмент у випадках домашнього насильства: консультування клієнтів”. The course presented three stories about women affected by domestic violence, where learners made choices and received video responses from actors based on their answers. The client aimed to provide practical, scenario-based training to help professionals effectively support and counsel people affected by domestic violence.

Challenges

The main challenge was designing the branching logic in Storyline so each learner’s choice triggered the correct video response. Ensuring smooth flow across three storylines, syncing video with interactive elements, and maintaining clarity in Ukrainian required careful planning and iterative testing. By mapping all decision paths and collaborating closely with the client, we delivered a seamless, interactive course that met the project’s goals.

What we did

We started by analyzing the client’s goals and the needs of the target audience, professionals working with people affected by domestic violence. Our approach focused on creating realistic, scenario-based training that would allow learners to practice decision-making in a safe, guided environment.

We emphasized storytelling, interactivity, and audience adaptation. By presenting three distinct storylines with branching video responses, we aimed to engage learners emotionally, make the learning experience immersive, and ensure the content was culturally and linguistically appropriate for the audience.

Our approach was guided by creative planning, iterative design, and testing. We mapped all possible decision paths, held brainstorming and storyboarding sessions, and used an agile development process to refine the interactive elements. This ensured that the logic for branching scenarios worked smoothly and the course remained engaging and effective.

Project breakdown

  1. The project included several key phases: Script Analysis according to created branching scenarios, Visual Concept and Storyboarding to plan scenes and interactions, Post Production video corrections, Interactive Development in Articulate Storyline to implement branching logic, and testing.
  2. Script Analysis: Reviewed and structured scripts according to branching scenarios.
Visual Concept & Storyboarding: Planned scenes, interactions, and flow of the course.
Post Production: Edited and corrected video footage for quality and consistency.
Interactive Development: Built the course in Articulate Storyline and implemented branching logic.
Testing: Verified all interactions, decision paths, and overall course functionality.
  3. We used Figma for storyboarding and visual planning, Articulate 360 for building the interactive course, After Effects for video editing and post-production enhancements, and an app for subtitles to add captions. Gdrive was used for file sharing and collaboration, while Asana managed project tasks and workflow.

Results

The project resulted in a fully interactive, scenario-based eLearning course in Ukrainian, featuring branching storylines with video responses to learner choices. It provided practical, immersive training for professionals supporting people affected by domestic violence. The course improved the client’s ability to deliver consistent, high-quality guidance, enhanced learner engagement, and ensured that staff gained hands-on experience in handling real-life counseling situations safely and effectively.
